Never Ending – One-Liner Wednesday

I have learned that I have much to learn, master. –from To Light A Candle by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory

This is a quote from a book that I read way back in high school and I’ve been thinking about it lately due to all the things that have happened on the farm lately.

All but one of our does have kidded and because we typically don’t have problems with our does we weren’t prepared with the last doe to kid (our black Nubian, Ebony) came down with milk fever. I can never remember how to pronounce or spell the technical name of the illness). It means that no one can use her milk and we had to send the 2 remaining of her 3 kids over to a friend’s house to be adopted by one of their nanny goats that foster other does’ kids. They will be fine and we’ll get them back in 8 weeks when they can eat hay.

But we weren’t fast enough to react and lost the second doeling that Ebony had.

We thought we were prepared for things with our goats, thought that we had learned a great deal. And we have, but we aren’t done learning just yet and I doubt that we ever will be.

Either way, make sure to check out the original One-Liner Wednesday.
