Behind Me Stands

Great people come and go

Only so far as history seems to show

Or is it that the good are only footnotes

Dust forgotten in the great boat’s wake?

Where a man stands there’s always another

Or maybe even just in the shadows, a mother

Many would not be where they are today

Are you where you thought you’d always stay

Not without the influence and care of a mother’s gentle stare

Humble Pie

Don’t want to look too far

Inside of myself

Seeing what I wish to hide

Control is merely an illusion

Reaching out from my pride

Even as my heart knows the truth

Perhaps I need another dose

As humility is missing

Now that my knees hit the ground

Can’t keep these feelings inside

Yet not caring as tears fall down

Look Inside

Real life likes to push its way in

Especially when you’re trying to do something

So you have to find a way to push the distractions back

Taking time to think and ponder what I lack

Looking at myself through eyes that are not mine

Even going so far as to wonder just what I might find

So take time every day, or every chance you get

Search inside of who you want to be just yet

Sometimes I can only take so much

Of life and how it has a continuous suck

Upon my time and energy

Lacking that spiritual synergy

Walk Through The Night – Thankful Thursday

Today I am grateful for all the times my mother sang us to sleep as children. She loves music and wrote different lullabies for each of her eight children and some of her friends’ children as well. I have no children as of yet, but I do have ten nieces and nephews and I have sung each of them to sleep at least once using music that my mother used to sing me to sleep with. Sadly I do not have a recording of any of her lovely music, but I do have a song written and performed by Cherie Call that reminds me very much of what my mom did every other night for her children. (It was every other night because she switched off with Dad, who told us stories to lull us to sleep.)

Check out the original Thankful Thursday.

Breathing Through A Dream

Don’t give up on what you feel in your bones

Remember that it helps you to breathe

Even when you’re bruised and broken

A moment with this is more than enough

Maybe that vision is who you really are

If only you let yourself dream you’d learn that you can still breathe
