The Earth’s Core

There wasn’t much that she could do in the long run after all. She was tired and old and so very, very alone.

“I don’t know why you continue on.” His voice had a hypnotic quality to it, something that he used to great effect. “You’ve been doing this kind of thing for centuries, eons even, and no one ever notices. It’s like you’re nothing more than the core of the Earth itself. No one really knows it’s there for longer than a few hundred years before it becomes boring and mundane and not worth even thinking about. They hypothesize about what it’s made of, but in the end, they don’t really think all that much about it, no matter how important it is to their very existence.”

She closed her eyes and tried to push away his nagging voice.

“You’re not real, you’re not real.” she muttered.

He grinned; he was winning. It wouldn’t be much longer before she started thinking things like this all by herself with nothing being done on his part at all.

Even the core of the Earth will wobble if given a sufficient enough push. And once such a steady structure was even slightly destabilized…

His grin grew into an ugly smirk.
