Quiet After Summer Noise

The house was quiet
Not a sound to be heard
No one was around
No stampeding small herd

No children arguing
Fighting for the remote
Complaining about breakfast
Or denying the vote

No laughs or cries
No one throwing a rock
Sticks waving in the air
Demanding the door be unlocked

For to school they had gone
Left over an hour ago
To be taught what they’d need
Or at least what their told
