Awaken Inspiration – Random Ramblings

Do you ever have a voice start shouting in your head about how someone or something can’t die on them?

I have characters for stories doing that at the most inopportune times lately. If they’re not yelling like that then they’re sobbing or laughing or crying about something else.

Listen, people, I just want to sleep here! It’s late and I have things I have to do in the morning!

Inspiration waits for no one!

(These were my thoughts one night as I lay awake in bed.)

Singing – Random Ramblings

I have read online so many times about people that would just love to actually live in a musical (or watch some other poor sucker live through one) without actually realizing that they are in the musical. Okay, so maybe they just want to watch the confusion on some poor sap’s face as they are stuck in a musical and not realizing it. (Many forget that Disney did actually sort of do this with the main male lead in “Enchanted.”)

Most of my family breaks out into song at seemingly random moments and the others join in, sometimes harmonizing correctly for most of the song before one of us (usually me) accidentally changes key half-way through one note.

I live in a musical, but the kind that was written for some kind of comedic tragedy most of the time it seems.

Sour Cherries – Random Ramblings

I love cherries so very much, have since I was old enough to beg my elder siblings to climb our cherry trees and pick me some because I was too little to climb. (Though I learned soon enough how to get up and down without using a chair. Using a chair just left you to be stuck up in the tree and caught by Dad when one of your seven siblings were angry at you and removed the chair before you could get back down. I usually deserved getting caught because I was a little brat that liked to push buttons.)

However, I have now come to look upon the small fruit with an unkind eye.

Finally finished freezing just under 35 pounds of cherries and it only took me four days! I have overstressed my wrists and am typing this very slowly. One of them is in a brace and I can’t dig out the other brace for the left one. I did have some help with the cherries and I am ever grateful for the help. I am also grateful to not have to wash the cherry juice off of my arms anymore when I have to move the laundry. (We don’t have a pitter and I will rectify that when I am able. That thing is, as I have been told by a friend, ‘worth its weight in gold.’

(My nephews and I have also been working on creating a pond for our ducks and geese to swim in during the mornings, which didn’t help my wrists at all.)

Paranoia Justified – Random Ramblings

Every time I read about one character’s belief that someone they know is too paranoid I remember how easy it was to break into the Shinra HQ in Final Fantasy VII.

Seriously, have you ever played that game? Breaking into Don Corneo’s Mansion is harder to do than the headquarters of the company that pretty much controls the entire planet in that game.

The only reason this is currently even on my mind is because I recently convinced my sister’s children that playing through  FFVII would be a fun thing for us to do together. Unfortunately I’d forgotten how to do a few of the puzzles within the game.

The good news is that they are having a blast watching me play.

The bad news is that I keep missing things and yelling at the characters for this or that thing and having to make sure I don’t accidentally blurt out spoilers as they know absolutely nothing about the Final Fantasy VII universe except for the fact that it is the best Final Fantasy game ever and the first to have more than one game/movie/book/anime to its name because of how awesome it is.

(No I am not trying to dis any of the other Final Fantasy games. They are also pretty awesome, but FFVII was the first one for me.)

My eldest niece has recently taken a delight in spy novels so even though she wasn’t interested at all in joining her younger brothers and me in playing through the game she is now just as hooked. She normally cannot stand most video games, especially ones that her brothers like.

Final Fantasy, it takes all kinds and bridges gaps between siblings.

(Though I’ll never forgive my brother from naming one of my characters WOMAN and then saving over my file. She was named with all caps and everything so it was like my characters were yelling every time they would have said her name.)

The English Language – Random Ramblings

There are awards online for things that have terrible grammar, spelling, plots, you name it. I have found that some of the best stories I have read tend to be ones that have bad spelling or mixed up grammar however. They are genuinely well written so long as you ignore the formatting and/or spelling errors. It makes me wonder sometimes just how badly some of the great writers of old were in spelling. After all, Shakespeare created words that didn’t exist before, so if he’d had  a teacher that would throw away his work just because it was using words that ‘weren’t real’ then I don’t know if he’d have gotten that far.

This is just something that randomly struck me while I was reading one of the aforementioned stories that have errors in them that don’t detract from the plot at all.
