Is It Justice?

Does it make you feel better

Even as they writhe in pain

Screaming out in agony

End of misery, they call for again

Real torture does not have to be physical

Very often, words are worth more than stones

Especially when whispered to more than the political

Don’t think it’s for anyone but yourself

Incidentally, no matter what people say

There is a large difference between justice and revenge

“To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence.” Deuteronomy 32:35

“For judgement is mine, sayeth the Lord, and vengeance is mine also, and I will repay.” Mormon 8:20

Happy Birthday, Dad

Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord they God giveth thee. –Exodus 20:12

I would like to take today to honor my dad. Today is his birthday and he will be 69 which means that next year he will be the big 70. I had not realized until this moment that he was so close to being another decade older than the last time I checked. (In fact, I had to check his age against my mom’s. He is four years older than her and that is how I have always calculated their ages. I figure out how old one is in order to get the others. It always changes depending on who I need to check.)

My dad is not perfect. He never was and he likely never will be.

That’s just how the cookie crumbles.

But he has tried his best to raise me and to do what he believed was right for me even if I (very greatly) disagreed.

I would not be who I am today without him and for that I am grateful to him.

I love you, Dad, and I hope that this next year is full of wonderful memories just as others have in the past for even sorrow can bring you joy.

Song of the Heart – Thankful Thursday

Today has been a slow morning, everyone who could sleep in did. It was worth it, as the day has slowly gone by (it’s almost lunch already?) and I have sat and just listened to some music. Of course, I only put the music on because my niece asked me to, but I liked listening to it while she whirled around the room, picking up and vacuuming.

I guess today I’m thankful for music.

The sound of children laughing.

The sound of children playing.

The sound of lullabies created by my mom.

The sound of the wind in the leaves.

The knowledge that music in itself is a prayer.

For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads. -Doctrine and Covenants 25:12

And when you can sing a prayer, then you just know that your day is going to be better for it.

Martin Cobb – A True Brother

True courage is standing up for what you believe in, even if it means laying down your life.

True love is choosing the welfare and well-being of others before you take care for your own life.

One little boy tried his best to stand between his sister and the person who would hurt her. I know that many little boys and little girls do this often for their siblings, for their friends, for the people that they care about. For many it is standing by the side of that person when they are being bullied or made fun of or being left out.

This was not the case for this little boy. He gave his life defending his sister from a fate that I would not wish on any.

I salute you, Martin Cobb. You will be missed by a world that had just discovered you.

And the Kind shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. -(Matthew 25: 40)

…and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. -(Matthew 10:39)
