For Everything There is a Season – Thankful Thursday

There are too many things to list about what I am grateful for from this past summer. We’ve done a lot of work on the farm and had a lot of fun hanging out as well. We’ve had new arrivals to the farm and had to say goodbye to others.

I guess the only thing I can think of to be thankful for while keeping this short (because I have to go season some cheese) is to say that I’m grateful for all that a person can learn in a season.

Quality Time – Thankful Thursday

I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with my sister’s youngest boy this week and I’m really glad. We’ve had a lot of fun and gotten quite a bit of work done as well. His siblings have spent the last week visiting other family members in the next valley over so it’s just been us during the day.

We’ve had a lot of fun.

Sight – Thankful Thursday

Today I am grateful for being able to actually see things without giving myself a headache.

Turns out that one of my eyes is nearsighted and the other is farsighted and it can really mess up your depth perception. For example, was supposed to dig the pond maybe a little over 4 feet at its deepest. Its deepest point is a little over 6 feet. Yeah…

Anyway, these are my new glasses and I am very glad that we finally got this worked out.

To Feel or Not To Feel – Thankful Thursday

Reaching back to who I was
Even as I must continue forward
Going to take my licks as they come
Especially when I have earned them
Teaching and learning and always still yearning

To be more than I once was.

This might be strange, but I’m grateful for the feeling of regret today. I won’t go into why, but I am grateful for the ability to feel this emotion, just so long as it doesn’t accidentally take over my life.

Poetry In Motion – Belated Thankful Thursday

Recently I had another blogger visit my site and comment on some of my poetry while inviting me to check his out. I did so and I have not regretted it. I haven’t read all of his work, not by a long shot, but each time I read one they are always a message that I needed (even if I didn’t know it until the poem was finished.)

So today, I’m grateful for sweetdevil69 dropping by and inviting me over. Y’all should check out his blog and read up on his poetry. You wont regret it!

The Grand Finale – Thankful Thursday

I’m grateful for the Cassini Spacecraft and all of the awesomeness it has discovered about Saturn since it’s mission not only began, but was also extended to this year. It has begun its final descent into the atmosphere of Saturn where it will be crushed.

I salute you, Cassini and I appreciate all of your hard work.

(And yes, I geeked out on everything I could find about Cassini before I had to give up the laptop to my niece for homework.)

Hard Lifting – Thankful Thursday

You know, there’s an awful lot of work to do on a farm and it often wearies me to the point that I just want to sit and stare at nothing on particularly bad days.

But I also find that living on a farm and working on that farm is very relaxing and it makes it easier to sleep at night. Which is important to me because my sleep cycle is easily inverted if I’m not careful. I also have found that it calms my mind when something happens and I’m having a difficult time processing it.

This happened yesterday. I won’t go into details, but I received some news that was very shocking to me halfway through the day and it kind of took me out for several hours before my sister came home and we went out back to plant some asparagus and strawberry bare root plants in the garden and dig in the pond a bit.

By the end of the two and a half hours of work, I was feeling far more settled and the weighty matter of which I’d received news of earlier was no longer stopping my mind from thinking and doing things.

So I am grateful this week for all of the hard work that living on and running a farm takes.

That’s Who I Am – Thankful Thursday

I’ve realized that there is a lot in my life to be grateful for that I hadn’t thought about in a while. Things that I didn’t always have, opportunities that have come or passed or been taken or lost. There are too many to name in one post, because as soon as I hit ‘publish’ I will think of more. Every time.

Today, I will name one thing that I didn’t have that I have now for which I am grateful:

I am grateful for perspective and the ability to learn from the past, something that I lacked for a great deal of my life thus far.

There are times when I look back at who I was before and the decisions that I have made and I want to go back in time just so I can smack myself, but the truth is, I wouldn’t be who I was without those mistakes and screw ups.

I wouldn’t be me.

And though I regret things, I would not change them, because they are a part of who I am and who I have become.

Computers and Cookies – Thankful Thursday

Got my laptop working again, but had to do a factory reset. Worth it to get it running again, though. I am grateful I didn’t end up having to take it in to the shop.

And that I still have a decent amount of that cookie dough from last week defrosting to bake.
