Ocean Dream – Poetry Prompt #17

I look out the window
And what do I see?
Blue waves breaking on the shore to see.
Summer has brought me such a nice surprise,
Seashell collecting under the skies.

I can take an arm full and make something neat,
Castles decorated and jewelry to last a week.

It wasn’t very so,
But it seemed to me,
Sunset in the ocean as far as I can see.

This is done to the tune of “Popcorn Popping” which is a Primary song from the Children’s Primary Songbook. The place that I would like to see is the ocean, in response to this week’s Poetry Prompt from WeDrink.

I have been to the West Coast and East Coast of the Continental U.S. but I have never seen an ocean.

Patience Thy Name Is Iris – Poetry Prompt 63

Waiting
Here
For
You.

I’ll
Catch
You
Yet.

Hide
In
The
Grate
Moth.

I
Can
Wait
All
Day
Too.

Also, inspired by my sister’s cat Iris, who is stalking a moth through the living room right now.

Guard Spires – Poetry Prompt #15

File:Van Gogh - Starry Night - Google Art Project.jpg
image: “Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh
 Time stands suspended,
Lights slow in movement, I see
Happiness is more.

Below the moon rests
People after day of work.
Dreams are so fluid.

Color glint spires
Twist up into the night sky
And guard the dreamers.

I love stars and anything to do with the sky…

Fallible Laughter – Poetry Prompt 52

Don’t laugh at me.
Don’t call me names.
Don’t get your pleasure from my pain.
In God’s eyes we’re all the same.
Don’t laugh at me.
-Mark Wills, singer
What is life like in the end?
But when is the end?

You are living as well as can be,
Does it matter that you’re clothes are grey?
Once they held color
A spark of life indeed!
Now they are soft
And mostly colorless,
But comfy nonetheless.

You are just a child,
One of many
And yet there’s always enough.
People watch you play,
You’re never lonely.
So why do their noses tip up?
Maybe they ran into a door?

You watch as people come and go,
Why are so many things leaving?
Where has everyone gone?
Why are their so many boxes around?
Can we not let daddy in?
Why must we keep the door locked.
Why, mommy, do you cry so much?

Why do the neighbors look down upon us?
Is it because we cannot keep the grass alive?
We’ve tried just about everything!
The trees survive…mostly…
The bushes survive
In fact they thrive!
Fruit they over abundantly share.

We’re leaving! We’re leaving!
The Spirit can speak to many
In revelations very personal to any.
Yet why is it that He cannot speak to us?
To move our family as He has so many others.
Why can He speak to you, but not to me?
He is no respecter of persons.

So we must work as hard as can be,
We cannot stop moving for even a moment.
Once we stop, we will not start.
Why is it that our labors are never enough?
People tell us that we will never float,
That soon we shall sink.
Why drag us further when it is all to tread water?

Times are rough,
They always seem to be.
Yet I shall keep on going
And never despair to be
For I am more than just this moment.
I am before and tomorrow as well
Because it is for myself I live.

Other people’s opinions and choices are theirs.
I can only answer for my own.

Also because this is something that I have lived with, seen and tried really hard to not be a part of (on either side of the fence). I am not perfect. I do not claim to be, but sometimes…

Sometimes I’m human and stupid and fallible. And sometimes I need a swift kick in the head.

Black and White – Poetry Prompt 37

Fortune favors the bold, it is said,
And I have been called bold in my youth.
Varying what shade I enjoy
Or mayhaps what hue would go best.
Rarely have I stuck with just one because
I find that they are all too glorious.
Though should I be hard pressed
Eventually both black and white are the best.
All shades and hues combined would black and white be, either in colors or light. So both for all are just right.

Dear Sister Mine – Poetry Prompt #14

Dear Sister mine,
I wonder how you are.
It’s been so long
Since I’ve seen you,
I’ve forgotten who you are.

Dear Sister mine,
I often find
I don’t know where I am.
I’m lost at home
And wonder where’s the jam?

Dear Sister mine,
My thoughts are gone,
I never know what’s next.
With memories shifting place
Nothing remains the shape.

Dear Sister mine,
I miss you so,
When will you come by next?
The days are long
While you are gone
And I am here alone.

Dear Sister mine,
This letter is long,
I must end it now soon.
Without you here
I’ll disappear
And see you ne’er again.

Dear Sister mine,
This is the end,
I have no more to give.
I’ve lost all I had
Without you near.
Goodbye, my darling dear.

I Beg to Differ – Poetry Prompt 45

I’ve often heard
Said so much
That it’s not the ending
But the journey loved so much.

I’d like to disagree
A little bit
Because to me
It also matters in the end
Where you would like to see.

The journey is important
I won’t forget that,
But where you want
To end up
Is also as important
As that.

The climbing up the mountain
Matters in great import
If where you want
To end up
Is up upon the peak.

So remember while you’re climbing
That the journey there is good,
Keep in mind also
That where you end up is too.

Written for one of Pooky’s Poetry Prompts: http://pookypoetry.wordpress.com/2014/06/14/poetry-prompt-45-climbing/

And because I’ve heard that the journey is the most important part. While it is important what you use as a means to an end, the end you’re moving towards is just as important.

Stay Calm…You’re Only Burning – Poetry Prompt #12

My but how it all changes in an instant.
Onward and upward, I cry!
My wingbeats are frantic as I know I’m running out of time.
Even as I pull ahead of the oncoming borde, their fire projectiles strike.
Never will I forget the smell of burnt feathers and the pain in non-existant limbs.
The sweat had plastered my hair to my face as I thump painfully onto the floor.
I don’t know why they thought I was a demon…
“What if we had ideas that could think for themselves? What if one day our dreams no longer needed us? When these things occur and are held to be true, the time will be upon us. The Time of Angels.”
-from Doctor Who

Written based off of a snippet of an old dream I had often back in middle and high school. Sometimes I can still feel the pain of arrows piercing limbs that I don’t even have…

On the Horizon – Poetry Prompt 25

Sounds are still,
There’s no one around,
Or mayhap they’re tired of the bill?
Reaching out with soundless arms,
My eyes watch as the clouds approach.

It was almost too quiet, but real life didn’t come with background music.

I wonder often how it will all turn out.
So I must continue on without a doubt.

When you make a decision, for better or worse, it was still yours to make.

Can I withstand what will come about?
Oh, I shan’t sit with a moment of doubt!
My faith is given and trust as well,
I know that for some this is a farewell.
No, I must face this head on, and know that
Going through with my life while still at bat.
